IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO DECLARE HEIFER BREEDS AND CORRECT STEER DIVISIONS ON ALL CJLA SANCTIONED SHOW ENTRY FORMS!!!
The CJLA offers Heifer Divisions for Angus, Hereford, Shorthorn, Maine Anjou, Limousin, Charolais and All Other Breeds. All heifers must be registered in the exhibitors’ name. CJLA does not offer a division for grade/unregistered heifers. All heifers must be registered in order to qualify for a CJLA heifer division. Grade/unregistered heifers are not eligible to earn points in showmanship contests.
Please note that Angus, Hereford, Shorthorn, Limousin, and Charolais only accept heifers with purebred papers to qualify for those divisions. The Maine-Anjou Division accepts papers showing registration as Maine Anjou or MaineTainer. Shorthorns registered as Appendix Shorthorns do not qualify for the Shorthorn Division and those points will fall into the All Other Breed Division. Percentage Charolais registered as Composite Charolais do not qualify for the Charolais Division and those points will fall into the All Other Breed Division. Red Angus heifers cannot show in an Angus Division and must go into the AOB Division. Appendix Shorthorns, Composite Charolais, and Red Angus should be entered in the All Other Breeds division at CJLA shows.
If you will be showing a heifer that qualifies for a breed division listed above, YOU MUST JOIN THE CALIFORNIA JR BREED ASSOCIATION FOR THAT BREED BY MARCH 31ST IN ADDITION TO THE CJLA. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to contact the Breed Association for membership.

******* STEER DIVISIONS *******
THE STEER DIVISION is divided into ENGLISH; BLACK/BLACK X; ALL OTHER COLOR. The English Division will combine purebred Angus, Hereford, and Shorthorn steers together. These steers MUST be purebred and eligible for registration according to those breed association requirements. You do not have to join the California Breed Association to show your purebred English steer in this division. All sanctioned CJLA steer shows are required to follow the CJLA format by offering separate divisions for English, Black/Black X, and All Other Color steers.
